Just a few bouquets

 

A few favorite bridal bouquets to end the week-- shades of white including stephanotis,champagne roses, and green cymbidium orchids.

 

Miniature calla lilies-- mango, yellos and a shade of red accented with aluminum wire.

 

A variety of roses accented with a few miniature calla lilies-- I love the soft yellow, they are fragrant garden rose!

This was a great reception that was designed last fall- remember the green shoes from earlier this week,they belonged to this bride.  A gorgeour palette of green and chocolate brown. The tables featured a combination of centerpieces--some tall, some low and all with multiple components.  This tall centerpiece featured bells of Ireland with floating candles and river rocks to complete the look.

 

The ever popular submerged green spiders with a  single cylinder of green apples-- another element in green.

 

An overview of the room-- this is a great BIG ballroom-- tall centerpieces  and hanging candles help make this space a little more intimate--along with about a gazillion candles!

Tall centerpieces can be one of the most dramatic additions to a reception-

A few things to keep in mind when choosing tall floral centerpieces,

make sure that they do not  block  the guests view across the table-

that is one of my biggest pet peeves!  

 

Adding elements on the table creates a very finished presentation-once the guests are seated they have something beautiful to look at-

 

Make sure the room can take the volume of the centerpiece-- your professional florist should be familiar with the venue and can give ideas for the space!

Fun and funky shoes!

 

One of  my favorite trends of all times-- colored shoes for the bride! It just seems so practical, goes right along with colored flowers for bridal bouquets, these two elements are just one of the modern ways brides add a little personality to their ensemble! For this particulart palette, the bright pink was introduced in a few key elements-shoes,lanterns, and a tiny pop in the flowers.

 

Even the boys get into this trend-- in this duo--green for the bride ( as well as all of the flowers!) and Chuck's for the all of the boys!

 

Even the bridesmaids got to show a little personality-- all of the bridesmaids wore these same polka dotted shoes with a very simple chocolate brown dress.

Mother's Day flowers--don't procrastinate!

Bouquets of Austin does not handle retail or holiday orders, but I grew up in  a small retail flower shop so I cannot pass up the opportunity to remind you to order those flowers NOW! Floral holidays represent a significant part of  revenue and annual  business.

Some tips on how to get great flowers for your mom, grandmother, ladies who should be your mom,etc.-- Look for a LOCAL flower shop, these are hard to come by these days, the small retail shop does not exist in a lot of areas, if you are lucky enough to have one nearby, stop in or if you need to call or order online do so early-- not on Friday afternoon, I promise you,  your mom deserves more than a last minute order.  Have the flowers delivered a few days early so she can enjoy them (also they will be the freshest, first product in, first product out!)  If she has a favorite flower or special request, you should've already placed the order!  Don't send flowers that she has to arrange( these most frequently come from online services)- yes, you have to pay for service!  Ask what is available, the prettiest, most cost effective-  if you have specifics, no carnations, no lilies, tell them, busy florists on holiday  weeks do not read minds! Is your mom trendy and modern (thing giraffe bags and big bangly beads), traditional ( floral throw pillows and china everyday of the week), urban and green ( succulents and branches)-- give the floral designer something to work with-- remember we love flowers so we think they are all beautiful!  Retail florists have my utmost respect for the job and service they provide-- thanks for doing your part to keep them part of our small business tapestry!

Tales from the delivery van!

Our (Fridays and)  Saturdays  are filled with the task of delivering the wedding flowers that we have been creating over the previous couple of days.  But, you never know what story you will hear from the delivery crew-- these are just a few from the past couple of weeks.  Keep in mind, they all involve my husband Paul-I'm just saying...

After a big rain, be warned that you should not drive in the delivery gate of Winfield Inn or you might just get stuck--lucky for them the flowers had already been delivered-they could barely tell the story from laughing so hard! We are so sorry Tom for the artwork left in the pasture!

The next week on the way to Nature's Point-- a copperhead in the middle of the road-yes, a snake- after a brief stop to take pictures the flowers were delivered on time! Then the next morning we were headed back out to Nature's Point and lo and behold  a snake carcass! Good thing our van does not talk--it would for sure let you know that we have a great time doing our job!

We had the pleasure of working with Robert Lu from Robertstudio.com a few weeks ago on this photo shoot.  This was our favorite setup of the day. I love the ribbons on these chairs, it's not for everyone, but it really makes a ceremony space look finished.
